Please join Metaphrasis and speaker, Sasha F. Carrillo, CHI, CMI, Metaphrasis’ Manager of Training Programs, Board Director of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC), and newly inducted board member of the Midwest Association of Translators and Interpreters (MATI), on Wednesday, June 19th, for an interactive and informative professional development event on ethical decision making.

Interpreter ethics is undoubtedly a topic included in basic medical interpreter trainings across the country, but this workshop will serve as a platform to expand our understanding of the code of ethics as more than “a set of rules”. Trained interpreters, bilingual community members, dual-role interpreters (community workers who are called upon to provide interpreter services), and recently-trained interpreters would benefit greatly from attending this workshop.

This workshop will engage participants in an interactive discussion and analysis of ethical interpreter behavior, while briefly examining the National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Healthcare. Before the session, participants will have the opportunity to anonymously share difficult ethical scenarios that they may have encountered while providing interpreter services. As part of the workshop activities, time will be allotted to examine and discuss these scenarios.

These continuing education courses offer valuable CEUs for CHIs and AHIs, applicable to the CEU category, “Ethics of Healthcare Interpreting”. Each participant will receive a Certificate of Attendance for 2 contact hours of instruction for each course.
